Why should you consider employing a consultant and what are the benefits? We are being driven today by what happens in other parts of the world. Europe is producing a raft of directives that impact on our daily lives and the way that we are permitted to run our businesses. The government is introducing more and more regulations. Much of our manufacturing is moving to areas where production costs can be greatly reduced. Industry can influence the way that European Directives and the often resulting European Standards are produced, but to do this you need to be involved. A consultant can help you and be a cost effective solution to solving your problems.

What can Ian Andrews offer you? Ian has been closely involved with the appliance manufacturing industry for some 30 years working with products as varied as food mixers, refrigerators, ventilation equipment and many more. Activity in this area includes attendance at trade association meetings on behalf of companies and and membership of national committees involved in the preparation and maintenance of national, European and International standards for safety and performance. This is where manufacturers can input their views as to what the various documents should say. Product examination can often reveal whether a product will comply with statutory requirements or the relevant standard. Advice can also be given to design teams regarding the directives, regulations and standards that will be most applicable to the product they may be developing. |

Advice on various directives, regulations and standards The many directives issued by the European Commision normally require each member to state to introduce or modify regulations that enact the requirements contained in the directive. Many of these are reinforced through the application of harmonised European standards. This can be a complicated and lengthy process. It needs a thorough understanding of the underlying requirements and the processes involved in gaining consensus throughout all the member states. |

Third party certification programmes Over the years Ian has managed many certification programmes and as a result has obtained third party certification for many product ranges. In order to achieve this in an effective manner it is necessary to understand the product, the relavant standards and the application of the standard by the testing authority. |

Representation of your company Many companies do not have an individual dedicated to the essential processes involved in the generation of the documents that dictate how we design and produce our products. While they may belong to a trade association they are happy just to receive updates on developments which impact on their daily operations. As such they lose the oppourtunity of influencing their own destiny. Ian can represent your company and your views at the various stages in the development of these important standards. |

System reviews Ian's wealth of experience in standardisation, factory surveillance and quality assurance is ideal for conducting system reviews. Only too frequently a single organisation will operate with numerous individual cells each addressing their own activity and being unaware of the activities in the adjacent cells. This has the potential to lead to duplication and poor efficiency. A systems review will look at the operation holistically and make recommendations as to how the overall efficiencies can be improved. |

User instructions The instructions that accompany every product are regarded as part of the product and will be assessed to ensure that they meet certain requirements. They need to be clear and unambiguous. They need to give instructions as to how the product should be installed and brought into use. |

All the above are examples of how Ian Andrews can work with you as a partner to improve your business and your profitability. The examples quoted are not exhaustive, so if you have any other requirement, please contact Ian who will be able to discuss them with you. |
